Some are already missing the point when they get into big .22 pistols such as Woodsman or Hi-Std HD. He’s talking about a pistol that fits into the palm of your hand or even into a jockstrap, nothing bigger. Complete and total concealed carry.
And stay away from that cheap aluminum shit for under $200. When you pay $89 for a new pistol, think of it as an $89 learning experience.
I’ve had enough of that crap come thru my shop over the years, I never want to see another one. Brand new pistols that won’t feed, mags that don’t work, and you can’t explain to them that you can’t fix junk!
Last year a friend brings me a new $90 .32 acp (Garcia?)to fix, he puts $1,000 scopes on his rifles and then buys his wife a $90 pistol. I told him to send it back, it was junk when it left the factory. He walked off pissed at ME because I insulted his new pistol. So he bought her a micro S&W .380, she won’t shoot it because it recoils too much for her. I loaned her a CZ-82, she liked it, but he wanted something cool and small. Too small to fit his huge hamhocks, funny how folks accumulate guns that don’t fit them, or they won’t shoot. Still attracted by bright shiny objects in gun shops.
Its about time someone mentioned this kind of thing. Because so many of the patriot movement are ex-military, there is an emphasis on military operations.
I don’t think a putative conflict ,should one happen will be anything like that. It will resemble the Argentine Dirty War with both sides running black ops
This changes the parameters a great deal. Also to consider, what is more effective, a firefight with hundreds of rounds exchanged and a few casualties or the right person, right place, right time with an untraceable .25 Raven ?
I made a similar observation quite awhile back & didn’t even get cricket sounds in response, I guess the ‘hitman’ aspect of what may come to pass is distasteful as it lacks the ‘honor’ & ‘romance’ of the ‘classic revolutionary’/'milspec’ scenario. I dunno, my attitude’s that as long as the opposition’s appropriately crippled/croaked & I’m not it’s a good thing & I don’t really care if such acts result in acclaim from colleagues/co-belligerents. My goal’s to terrify the livin’ splat out of the bad people to the maximum extent possible & hopefully make ‘em do things they shouldn’t (from unnecessarily holding/fortifying a position to calling in worthless arty/air strikes to abandoning the area completely) thereby helping me hurt them w/ a minimum of time/effort/danger on my end.
If that’s cowardly then I’ll just have to wear a canary yellow dress uni in the victory parade, assuming proper psycho-physical integrity has been maintained that is, which is the hard part.
Quieting a semi’s far easier than a revolver despite what Coppola & DeNiro fantasize is the case. The down side is that disagreeable propensity for going BANG/JAM that semis fired in pockets or holsters tend toward which makes it essentially a single shot, & revolverists should refrain from smugness as their luv’s hampered by a hammer which likes to grab pocket cloth & a cylinder that dislikes encumbrance. Another point is that if the popgun’s equipped w/ a can, size & recognisability pose problems for the user w/ the latter being the most obvious but the former being a major factor as effectiveness is directly related to size & ammo. The hotter the ammo the bigger/longer the can & the more likely it is to be discovered unless a modular approach’s used as in Gorky Park/similar, & for those thinking about a cane/walking stick platform ask yourself how often you see such items & how LE reacts to those w/ them. Even the rig portrayed in Forsyth’s Day of the Jackal has faults as it like the cane/walking stick gun is de facto single shot, relatively slow to reload, & also requires the user to effectively feign injury which presents mobility problems. Ejected cartridge cases are yet another irritant for the semi platform, but as mission/situation dictate acceptable risk such detritus may not be a biggie if the weapon’s equipped w/ a slide lock.
A small cal canned toy accessible thru a cut out pocket’s not bad for concealment as it runs down the side of the leg & allows its user reasonably easy access while vertical. Obviously such must be retained by some method that’s secure enough yet doesn’t hinder, a ‘sling’ of some sort (whether elastic or not) attached to the belt or waistband w/ a safety pin/other type of mechanical clasp or velcro at the top w/ the bottom end a snapped/velcroed garter-type strap arrangement’s one way to do the job, or one can simply go w/ a garter setup w/ a strap around the pistol as the holster & a loop for the canned barrel. It’s even simpler to to have a velcro garter w/ either the hook or loop on the pistol/can. Cheap, reasonably easy to make, unrecognisable, & disposable.
Regarding ammo, a medium velocity .22LR round w/ its point abrasively flattened into a tc/swc by nail file, sand/emery paper, wood, brick, concrete, etc., works well enough but it’s important that the projectile be balanced to prevent gyroscopic instability causing degraded accuracy & unsatisfactory results. This is a concern for distance targets, if the object’s close a cal appropriate smooth tube’s okay but it’d better be CLOSE or projectile instability’ll drastically affect terminal effectiveness. Another option’s the QuikShok pre-fragmented round, but remember it’s a hot one & that affects what suppression method’s used & it’s also relatively exotic which presents logistical & evidentiary complications. The following may be helpful for evaluating 3 specific .22LR round’s performance.:
There are those of us who have been talking about Patriot covert ops for the past several years. I will tell you what I want to happen.
Covert groups in urban areas that organize into teams with two sections. One section will be “nerds or goobs” that handle all the electronic aspects. Things such as equipment, comms, and passive intel collection fall under the heading of the nerd section. The second section is the field guys. They cover physical intel collection and the messy work.
These groups will collect the intel needed to supply the paramilitary hide in the woods guys with information. They will also collect info to supply their own missions or the missions of other covert teams.
Mosby spoke of this and I have said I think that our efforts will be won or lost in this area of operations.
I’d prefer to be in the Active Measures section of the TO&E, the techies are interesting & their work’s important but the Weird Science crew gets tedious after awhile. Q/similar, however, would be a joy to work w/ as such don’t see enthusiasm for doing unto the evil as ‘bad’/'sick’ & therefore can engage in discussions about the topic sans the histrionics that often accompanies it.
Well I dont have the mad hacker skills that the best goob section would have but lord knows I can solder and put together small scale devices so I would have some cross over abilities. Thats how some groups may have to function.
I read recently about a class on E&E that was done out west. Now most folks think of E&E and they think of running through the woods trying to escape from tracking teams like that “Mantracker” show on TV. This class however was done in an urban area. It consisted of escape from a holding area and movement to a cache site then to a safe house. All the while shaking trailing teams and changing your appearance.
I would like to run something like that. For example. 4 teams are brought together and given some class time on techniques and covert comms. Three of the teams are selected to be the trackers while one is selected to be the prey. The prey team are then dropped off on foot in an urban area and given two hours to reach a specific location. The tracking teams are just given a general area to cruise around in looking for the prey team. They may be told to simply track the prey team and must then coordinate that track or they may be told to capture them. They will have to work together to coordinate that as well. All are armed with airsoft or simunitions but the real skill will be to accomplish the mission without the use of gunfire. Lock picking, surveilance and counter surveilance, restraints and how to escape them all skills we need to learn.
To this day I kick myself for selling my stainless TPH I bought new for just over $300 in 1993 a year later for almost what I paid for it.
Now you can’t touch one for less than the upper $500 range.
It’s very lurvely…

(Don’t know how authoritative/valid the above is so caveat lector)
There’s more, but that’s enough for rumination.

The Ruger SR22 appears to be a fine weapon, a company is building threaded barrel kits for them already.
See the video on youtube too.
