To warm your cockles and sharpen your wits in advance of the upcoming Great Twenty-First Century American Collective Re-Education & Weight-Loss Extravaganza, read these two tales of the Holodomor:
A Tale of Two Journalists: Walter Duranty, Gareth Jones, and the Pulitzer Prize
As you watch the bald-faced dishonesty by .gov and its media minions about the relatively-trivial Libyan attacks, just imagine what the collectivists and their propagandists will be willing to do in support of the efforts to destroy FreeFor.
Just imagine.
I had some fiery defiance on the tip of my tongue, but somehow it fizzled out. It’s still there, but there’s no use in verbalizing it.
I, for one, do not have any intention of starving to death, or watching my family do so.
It isn’t because we are stashing and hoarding food away, either.
We all die. If it comes to that, I intend to deserve it.
I am as secure on the field of battle as I am in my bed.
Resist.
“I, for one, do not have any intention of starving to death, or watching my family do so.
It isn’t because we are stashing and hoarding food away, either.”
A little hot sauce should help with the long pork.
…
Not, uh, quite what I had in mind…
In the book The Dogs Of War, Cat Shannon tells somebody that he’d rather die with a bullet in his chest and blood in his mouth, rather than freezing to death in a basement with bits of a cardboard cereal box in his mouth.
Works for me.
I agree.
Some people might misinterpret, twist and/or construe these words to mean that I do not believe in storing food for a contingency.
Such people would be advised to re-read what I wrote.
You can store food, but you can’t store enough to last indefinitely.
If buckets of wheat is your main plan, they’ll run out.
If a garden is your main plan, you’re tied to a fixed location. Bad plan.
A mixed approach is best, but that was not the main intent of my comment.
Buckets of wheat….. main plan? Really? Gardens….. main plan? Really? Justin [last name deleted - WRSA] why don’t you share with us your plan on feeding the 8 mouths in your tribe. Everything is a bad plan to you, please take the time and share with us your expertise on gardening, just how big is your garden? food preps etc, and surely you must have a better plan in place already? Inquiring minds would like to know.
Just a few weeks ago you were asking about this: http://www.arcticpatriot.com/2012/09/question-for-preppers.html
Now you are here claiming expertise on what is the best way? How could you possibly know what a bad plan is if you don’t even understand how all of the components work?
Bill Nye
Please pull my full name out of this comment, CA.
Bill, I believe you missed my point.
I never claimed expertise on anything, especially not in the food department.
The point is that one should not rely on stuff, rather one should seek to prepare people, and oneself (like I was doing in the post you mentioned above) above seeking merely to acquire that which can be taken away or which might have to be left behind.
The point isn’t that it’s a bad plan to do those things (if you had bothered to read what I wrote, this is plain), the point is that “those things” cannot be relied on as much as can less physical assets.

Since you asked Bill, I will share my “main plan” for “inquiring minds”.
- Part of it is to look ahead and secure anticipated provisions for a medium-term disruption. I can go into they “whys” of “medium term”, but it is not necessary for our purposes. A hint: How long do shoes last?
- Part of it is to train my body to fight.
- Part of it is to build tribe. In real life. Not this internet stuff, although that can potentially lead to IRL tribe-building.
None of those, however, are my “main plan”.
My “main plan” can be expressed in one word, presented here for “inquiring minds”, for critique, ridicule, or whatever.
Christ.
He is utterly sovereign.
Nothing happens that is outside of His will.
It is my duty to prepare in every way I can to provide for and protect my family- and to teach them to do the same in my absence. I was given and charged with them by no other God Himself, and I am responsible for them.
Even if all that is taken away, all my preps, my weapons, my health, my family- everything…
Should I accept the good from God and not the bad?
I am as secure on a field of battle as I am in bed.
There’s my “main plan”.

What is your major malfunction?
The solution is not rocket science. You find a crap load of food bearing plants that will grow in the wild and that are not palatable to the local animals. You plant the buggers all over your AO.
Bingo. Self sustaining food on the run. Eat from your cache during winter. Forage from spring to autumn.
Seeds are cheap, and heirloom varieties will breed true. Tubers are particularly resilient and tend to look fairly innocuous.
If the food attracts animals? Well it turns out animals are made mostly of meat. Imagine that?
Some folks are such whingers.
Aimed at the Nye-tard FYI
When it starts ( or as it already has) There is very little reporting. Look at all the illegal swat raids and murders that get, at most, a paragraph or two in the local paper, usually vindicating the police. There will be a % of the population that never knows whats going on until it affects them directly, and even then they will probably just believe the propaganda about it and blame the muslims or something.
As I have been told by umpteen friends and family, “they’ll tell us when something is wrong”. Can’t argue with that. It’s going to be hard to watch friends and family die from stupidity, but that’s the way they want it. And I’m tired of repeating myself over and over, telling them to get food, supplies and ammo set aside, they really think I’m fukn crazy. I’ve told them to get their money out of the banks, put it somewhere safe, they laugh at me for not having a bank account like “real” people and stop being so stupid.
They will blame whomever the TV tells them to, including idiots like me for causing this panic.
Forrest Gump: “Sometimes there’s just not enough rope.”
The links you provided were quite enlightening. That one about the Holodomor being man made got me to thinking: Was there really a drought in the Midwest, or is that what we were told?
“As living conditions worsened, the authorities expanded the system of hard currency stores, the torgsin. The name was an abbreviation for the Russian phrase, torgovlia s inostrantsami (trade with foreigners), because only foreigners had the right to possess precious metals and convertible currency. In exchange for food, these stores helped extract the last valuables remaining in the countryside. Often a small piece of jewelry, a gold tooth, or a concealed silver or gold coin meant the difference between life and death.”
Most prophetic, this. Will our people be machine-gunned in their millions? No; that would use up resources needed for our Imperial masters’ wars overseas. They’ll simply try to starve us out. Beginning by turning off the EBT cards.
Famine, not firearms, is the true weapon of the despot.
@ MS – I’m reporting here from the midwest, yes. There was, and still is, a drought. Loosen the tin foil a little bit.
Thanks for the ground truth, David. And the advice. But I prefer to call it “mimetic polyalloy.” LOL
My corner of the world in indiana did suffer drought and loss of corn crops or at least a smaller yield but I doubt if prices will increase too much as grain used to feed livestock will be smaller in the US and world due to downsizing herds and inability to afford a higher meat diet. My concerns are with the permanent government employees who follow government mandates to the tee without budging. If the epa determines that a river must flood in the spring to simulate nature then, by Obama, the water behind dams will not be lowered in preperation for spring runoff, and presto, you have flooding and damage to agriculture and infrastructure. If they determine that the four gaited frolicking frog is in danger then your irrigation water disappears. Then they can mandate that all your livestock, including dogs and cats, need tracking chips to better control “disease”, so now every cow, chicken, horse, pig, or lamb is tracked. If it isn’t the “proper” breed of animal then it must be disposed of by government. Then they will “drone” the countryside looking for livestock or faming practices they dislike. Perhaps the proper response to this is to collect government employee addresses, license numbers, and family members locations in order to keep them up to date on our disapproval of their mandates. And cut the fricking government employee budget by 50% as a starter. And if your life depends on food stamps and EBT/tanf then you are likely not going to be a survivor. Sec 8…you’re done. Free phone, free cable…you’re done. May as well start drinking the jim jones koolaid.
Surviving without “official food”: plant varieties that are not recognized as food but have lots of nutritive value. Don’t “hunt”, trap. Don’t “fish”, net. A feeling of hunger in your belly means that you are not starving to death, yet. If it’s been a week since food, and the hunger stops, you are getting into trouble.
