ZH: Weaponized America

…”If we didn’t know better, we would say that either RGR [Ruger] has somehow become a $0.99 app for the latest and greatest cool, faddy cell phone, whatever that may be, or, alternatively, America is preparing for war.”

Ya think?

  1. Thus the arms race continues. And in all likelihood it will for quite some time. There are those who will ease back on their logistics, but I suspect that there will be quite a few people who will remain stuck in an ‘alert’ state, and thus keep upping their arsenal. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though. Ammo is always a decent asset to have. Perchance some of these buyers would be willing to assist in logistical operations in the event of a true breakdown? We could only hope that these souls would be so generous. I won’t be holding my breath though. Especially considering the remarks of the ZH commentariat.

(As an aside: Don’t get me wrong, ZH is an awesome place, one of my favorite reads, and many of their commentators offer excellent insight into many of the worlds affairs. But its disheartening to see such supposedly intelligent and ‘successful’ individuals engage in piss-ant little trifles, and let their egos and rampant desire for materialism so dictate their mindset. I could only frown as I read a couple posters snipe at each other with remarks about how one would shoot the other with a pistol to acquire his rifle, and that the other would make sure this would-be attacker would be the ‘first round’. I’m half the age of most ZH commentators, and even I, with all my failings and idiotic decisions accrued through my meager years, know better than to engage in such puerile shit.)

    My apologies for the tangent.

  2. I don’t doubt that, post-collapse, guns/ammunition will be used in open domestic warfare…and as bartarable currency. And supply will not catch up with demand. Too little time left.

  3. Uh, Stuka Pilot, you done forgot something. When the Allies bombed Germany day and night, and destroyed factory after factory, German war production actually INCREASED, year over year, until so much land and resources had been lost, that production collapsed. Albert Speer used slave labor, 24/7, went underground, and did whatever it took to produce what was needed. When the Coming Excitement commences, both sides, or all sides I should say, will move heaven and earth to produce the ammo needed. Technology and production leap 10 times,100 times faster when war comes. At the beginning of WW1, there weren’t 1,000 planes amongst the parties. In four years there were a million, and flying much faster, deadlier and bigger. FreeFor will have shortages, to be sure, but much of that will be made up by feeding on OPFOR.

    • He just flies Stukas, he doesn’t read that history crap.

Of course, the big reason that Speer was able to increase production was that the German economy was not put on a wartime footing until *very* late in the game. The Germans didn’t take war production seriously until they’d already lost the industrial battle. Prior to ’43-’44, they had been using conquest to finance things, and booty to equip a lot of units.
