Nature, Nurture, & Liberal Values

Culture, morality, and free will – do any of these factors matter, at least as much as one thinks?

Important questions for free men and women grasping for a new polity.

  1. Extra points for anyone who reads that article in its entirety and carefully thinks it through before commenting here.

4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.
8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. (Emp. mine.)

As erudite, scholarly and earnest as that article is (and many like it), it is a tangle of concepts insoluble, impossible in practice and of no other avail than to perpetuate and propagate confusion and dissension.

    • Anyone who accepts Darwinian Evolution also accepts that there is no such thing as Human Nature. Therefore there is nothing to be learned from the past. There is no right and no wrong and no Judgement. Utopia can be achieved by Mankind, if we all work together toward the lofty goal. God’s response to the same kind of thinking is told in the story of the Tower of Babel.

Sorry, man, I tried, but I just couldn’t continue without developing a headache! It devolved into nonsense quite rapidly. But I think you pegged it well.

  2. This is a subject I thought about a lot as a teenager and consider it settled.
Genetics hardwire nearly everything into our behavior and culture, religion and the “evil” doubled standards etc are just adaptions to magnifiy our genetic success.

People are DNAs way of making more DNA………. and everything flows from this.
This is why the efforts of the socialists to drive a wedge between the people and their nature are always ultimately doomed to failure no matter how much suffering they are willing in cause in order to further their toxic and unnatural ideology.

  3. Gentlemen, we are in deep agreement… and a decided minority.

No matter, as you say, Nata, nature and reality win every time.

    • “Gentlemen, we are in deep agreement…”

Here’s a compliment. I thought you put it pretty well—“a tangle of concepts insoluble, impossible in practice and of no other avail than to perpetuate and propagate confusion and dissension.” Yep, that’s what it is and that’s what it’s for.

      “and a decided minority.”

Nah, not about that. The vast majority of people would never bother with it, and almost none of them would ever be taken in by it. You pretty much have to have an advanced degree AND be part of the Machine, to even consider swill like that. Did you catch this line…

“…most of what we do and feel arises from processes over which we have no control.”

So if that’s plainly false, which it is, then what’s true?

  4. It’s interesting to juxtapose the information in this article with the arguments presented by Anonymous Conservative regarding r/K Selection Theory & the development of the Amygdala.
