1. “I mean, if we take the “likely to happen” thing to its obvious conclusions, I don’t even need to carry a gun. I’m 6’1” tall, weigh 215#, am obviously athletic, and have no compunctions about telling someone to “back the fuck up.” I am remarkably aware of what is going on around me in public…The chances that I’m going to get mugged realistically rest somewhere between not happening and not a snowball’s chance in Hell of happening.”

Ran into people inside and outside the military who felt the same way until they were mugged or even butt raped. And no, this wasn’t in a prison environment either.

  2. whenever I open the garage door at night, prior to taking my 1 AM or so cardiovascular-enhancing bike ride, I always do a good long scan of the area, just to see if any werewolves are hanging about. So far, zippo, just the occasional raccoon

One would think that the leader of the Nutnfancy Fan Club would do better than this.     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76XVhOPkKhc  (Can you run a mile in full tactical gear.) This guy has hundreds of videos on YouTube and is sucking eggs.   From: Western Rifle Shooters Association To: marlostanfield53@yahoo.com Sent: Thursday, July 30, 2015 11:18 AM Subject: [New post] Two From Mosby #yiv7549400270 a:hover {color:red;}#yiv7549400270 a {text-decoration:none;color:#0088cc;}#yiv7549400270 a.yiv7549400270primaryactionlink:link, #yiv7549400270 a.yiv7549400270primaryactionlink:visited {background-color:#2585B2;color:#fff;}#yiv7549400270 a.yiv7549400270primaryactionlink:hover, #yiv7549400270 a.yiv7549400270primaryactionlink:active {background-color:#11729E;color:#fff;}#yiv7549400270 WordPress.com | Concerned American posted: “Focus On The 25m TargetWhat Training Classes Should I Take? How goes your training?”

Now here is some serious fitness levels.      http://www.escapefromalcatraztriathlon.com/    The sand ladder portion has 400 steps. Videos on YouTube. The winner swam 1.5 miles, rode 18 miles on a bike thru serious hills San Francisco, and the 400 steps sand ladder and finishes with a 8 mile run that involves street, trails, more stairs and wet beach in 2:02 and some change. I have been in Frisco when that time in a car won’t get you across town. There are a few clubs in the bay area that host a swim only event from Alcatraz. Actually from a huge ferry just of shores. They also  have a Golden Gate Bridge Swim for the really frisky.

  5. A very good reminder with 2 simple scenarios. And it doesn’t hurt to be told the importance of situation awareness every now and then. Grind it into the heads of the ones you love while you’re at it.

  6. Mosby provides some good observations. Maybe I am a freak, but my situational aware radar is first and foremost my ears. Long before I might see the source I know its there and general direction. In the office I know not only someone is coming but probably who it is by the cadence and time between footfalls. (drives staff nuts.) Kids I see walking around with their ears plugged up with the cellular are both blind and deaf.

    • Yup. Hyper-sensitive hearing. I hear shit way before it’s even in sight. Drives ME nuts.

      • Pfft. Amateurs. You’re not really aware of people until you can SMELL when they’re approaching. Smells like Sally. Smells like Bob. Smells like Sally and Bob were on break together.

  7. HHH Old Vet.

Hehe, How “Nosey” there GS. My dogs do most of the smell work for me.
