Vicious Harmony: Mattis On Cooperation

In this age, I don’t care how tactically or operationally brilliant you are, if you cannot create harmony — even vicious harmony — on the battlefield based on trust across service lines, across coalition and national lines, and across civilian/military lines, you need to go home, because your leadership is obsolete. We have got to have officers who can create harmony across all those lines.

Men do their jobs.

Schoolgirls pull hair and talk shit about each other.

The mission is to resist tyranny by any means necessary.

Focus, people.

Back to work.

  1. Aww, hell… How are all our usual shit disturbers here gonna have any “fun” if we play by those standards?

We spend too much of our time debating the issues which divide us philosophically/ideologically, most of which are not crucial to defeating our common Enemy.

Failure to win/survive will void any further need for such debates. The landscape post victory will look so different (unknowable at present) that many such issues will have been resolved, rendered moot or reduced in importance, survival and evolving cooperation/viability having become paramount…

Just as they are right now!

    • “We spend too much of our time debating the issues which divide us philosophically/ideologically, most of which are not crucial to defeating our common Enemy.”

When I was first introduced to WRSA, your above quote would’ve never needed to have been said at the time. There was lots to absorb with serious, logical content from many that attracted me to return day after day. For me, that hasn’t changed as I’m here each day like clockwork as WRSA is my first perusal before I move to other sites.

My only hope is that with all the evil and wickedness we are witnessing on a daily basis, this community maintains its main focus as you stated while keeping troll-types at bay unless what they offer, although counter to the message, does bring more participation to the table in keeping focus on our common enemy. We all DO have the same thing in common…separate wheat from chaff comes to mind.

      • The sheep from the goats….

“When I was first introduced to WRSA, your above quote would’ve never needed to have been said at the time.”

Agreed. Thank you, Sir, for that recognition and confirmation.

For me, the key graph is this:

“Failure to win/survive will void any further need for such debates. The landscape post victory will look so different (unknowable at present) that many such issues will have been resolved, rendered moot or reduced in importance, survival and evolving cooperation/viability having become paramount…”

        Paramount.

  2. Put different members of your tribe in a similar stressful situation. Observe reactions and subsequent behavior. Know who you want at your side in a life or death scenario. Everyone, including the elderly, young and handicapped should have responsibilities and tasks to perform. ‘Idle hands are the devils workshop.” Is the common enemy the recipient class, socialists.politicians,self-proclaimed victims? Who the fuck are we preparing to defend ourselves from? My AO will become what I am willing and hopefully able to maintain with some semblance of security and safety. We are in the most unstable of times. Firewood, hay, and fuel are the priorities now. You may end up riding a horse. Or eating one.

  3. Harmony comes from a singular vision. In the military that mission is supposed to be narrow and well defined. The carping that goes on on this website and others is an effort to define that singular mission. Who is the enemy? Is it government writ large, or is it only the current administrators of the government? Is it the out of control police or is it the out of control citizen? Is it Islam, or Jews, or evangelical Christians? Is it the rich elite or is it the poor? What is the end game? When or if a singular vision is arrived at and the flag is raised then, and only then can the Army move forward.

    • The Enemy, Bobbye, is the eternal foe of mankind. Any and all who do his bidding, any and all who oppose peace and Liberty, whether knowing or not, are already apparent, identified by their own words and deeds.

And there will be no Army and no singular vision other than resistance to tyranny, thank God, until He comes again, at least on “our” side.

    • well put, except for punctuation and excess verbiage. The enemy will be, in general…

      “government…administrators…police…citizens…Islam…Jews….Christians …rich…poor”. Which leaves about 3%

Nah, I for one want this to drive to a conclusion.

I’ve really grown tired of the skirmishes. This thing looks like the ground has been selected and the forces are moving into formation for an Armageddon. The opening shots have been fired and already certain people have stomped their dicks with spiked shoes in such a manner that they will never recover in my view. At least in this little corner of the realm. One even appears to be going all in now. It’s gonna be interesting to see who calls and who folds.

I really want to see it end. I don’t care who takes it in the ass in the process. The whole gig could prove to be a huge lesson for everybody watching. Then, this little corner can move on and get back to more pertinent things.

And in the interest of transparency, not a damn bit of this bovine manure has even the slightest bit of influence on operations down here in my neck of the woods, except for notation of persons to avoid in the future as the battle unfolds. That we will continue to do.

So, have at it fuckers. I’m up on the side of the hill in a paddy squat looking down. Don’t disappoint me. Lay it all bare. Let’s see what ya’ll got. 🙂

    • Forgive the bluntness but the spats are never gonna end because too many people think like you. This part makes good sense though…

“And in the interest of transparency, not a damn bit of this bovine manure has even the slightest bit of influence on operations down here in my neck of the woods, except for notation of persons to avoid in the future as the battle unfolds.”

I figured there was some self-interest in there. When you can bring yourself to admit that it’s good…well, then things will change. That would be ethics, of the rational sort.

  6. From where I stand and observe, this is what I see… An impoverished, dependent, lazy, dumbed down society, full of pot bellied loud mouths, drunk and stoned beyond any capacity to think or reason with any measurable amount of intelligence. Who have given up on, or never even tried, to better their lives or surroundings in any real meaningful way. It’s unbelievable how oblivious the great majority are of their own pathetically obnoxious existence. A beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other, disheveled and ungroomed, shouting over each other about the stupidest shit imaginable. There’s no saving this grotesque living abortion called american society. Don’t forget to stock up on popcorn. 🙂

  7. “There are hunters and there are victims. By your discipline, cunning, obedience and alertness, you will decide if you are a hunter or a victim.” – Gen James Mattis

A Marine taught me to deer hunt on MCB Quantico of all places. The first time we went out he got us lost in the dark. So we just sat down and waited for something to kill right where we were. Sure enough an 8 point buck walked up on me sitting against a tree from the head of the thicket. I was unarmed as I was just observing a bow hunt (the trip was to decide if I was worthy of him teaching me to hunt I think). Anyway mr. Buck stared at me eyeball to eyeball from about 15 yds away. My Marine buddy couldn’t see the fucker from his vantage point and there was no way for me to signal him although I did try. The buck walked off after what seemed an eternity.

Hunting is a lot of fun. You should try it.

  8. Total depravity of Man. Can’t see any leader worthy of following. So forget the leader thing and just press on.

Another mast-head quote right there. Something to take to heart.

  10. Ca, The best quote of all time. Seriously.

No one’s impressed with your lack of respect
We’re all black sheep and we know it
So don’t fuck it up for the rest

I believe the Marine Corps slogan “Gung Ho” actually has its roots in Chinese, meaning for “Strive for harmony”, picked up by the Corps’ presence in that country in the ’20’s or ’30’s. Could be just a military legend though.

    • SemperFi, 0321

Carlson supposedly brought it back from China while observing/training Chinese troops in the 30’s, then taught it to his Raiders. Spread from there to all the units.
And yes, it is legend, throughout the Corps!
