Reason and honest threat assessment.

Even more useful than plates.

  2. I never bought into the plate fashion craze, didn’t see the point. But saw the counterpoint – planning to get shot. And the weight. A friend has a plate vest and I put it on recently. Good god. How are you gonna be lithe and supple and get stuff done with such a handicap? None for me thanks. I did 4 groundpounder years in europe without it and at my age I still don’t think I need it.

Drop 20 pounds of bodyweight. Get 45 pounds stronger in the big 3 lifts. Do like the Legion train with more weight than you fight with.    Subsonic Suppressed M1A  Scout scope is fast for those with good eyes.

Nope. I don’t need the added weight.

  6. If you’re old, fat, and/or out of shape and still plan on wearing plates, you’ll be seeing the podiatrist more than combat.

+1 on steel and spall concerns. Think about your neck and face being right above that plate. You’ll be whistling dixie through a hole under your chin.

  7. Hope to heck I never need it….but I have it and it’s staged with loaded mags. Level III. I wear it on occasion and make sure I keep it adjusted for seasonal clothing thickness. Rather have it and not need it than regret it.

  8. If you can afford armor, then buy it. The window will close for civilian purchase. Get concealable Level IIIA soft vests, a set of Level III hard plates, and ballistic helmets for yourself and loved ones. Have a way to armor-up you POV for traveling thru indian country. And for the millionth time, buy some more ammo, it’s likely TPTB will find a way to make that impossible to get also. If for nothing else, it makes a great barter item. Bullets are better than gold, you can defend yourself and put dinner on the table with those… gold, not so much.

    • “Bullets are better than gold, you can defend yourself and put dinner on the table with those… gold, not so much.”

I have no doubt that trading in bullets and PMs will take place far into the future. There will also be times and places when travelers will be better served by taking one instead of the other. Gold is nice when in transit in civilized areas. An ounce of gold will get a firearm and a dime sized gold coin will supply the ammo when the need to go into the badlands arises.

      • Nonsense.
He who has ammo, trumps he who has gold – everytime…
“Give me your gold, or I give you my bullet”.
        Choose wisely.
You obviously didn’t grow up in Detroit.

        • The forward thinker, has both. Timing IS everything.

My friend should the ballon go up, and I see a ” Hood Rat ” on my street, talking’s done. All that’s left to do, is removing the deceased, to prevent funk from spreading.

The forward thinker also keeps an extra can of fuel specifically for that task.

          Dirk

        • The wise man has both bullets and PMs and knows when and where to use them.

Detroit isn’t much of a standard.

The soldiers I met walking the beat in Baghdad were typically from rural and small town America. If we have some recruiters here who can speak up, I think they’ll back me up that kids from the cities by and large just don’t enlist. Maybe you’re an exception to that rule, but the toughness of city folk in America is vastly overrated. Sure they can be rude assholes with attitudes, but it’s not like they had to walk through miles of snow to get to school, kill their own meals, or chop down a tree to heat their house.

          • You wouldn’t last the night in the D. I’ll bet $ on it.

            • Hey, funny guy, been to Detroit, even stayed in Dearborn and the Arabs didn’t kill me there either. I liked the food.

    Its on my get list.
Vehicle and urban OPs are different than bush OPs. different tactics and considerations. If your mission ever dictates that you kick down a door and clear rooms then you are going to want those plates.

Picture your wife being held in a bad guys squat house, the cops are nowhere to be found, its just you and your crew……now do you think plates maybe would be nice?

  10. We’ve got both, AR500 plates, and ceramic. View both as defensive tools. We would rather have the plates, and not need them, then discover that we need plates and don’t have them.
