  1. I haven’t taken my radios out since moving. I need to get back on that. Thanks for the reminder.

  2. Question – I was never a comm man, but had the opportunity
to carry and use the AN/PRC-77 Portable Transceiver a few
decades ago while on a deadly post and another time when a
comm man dropped out from a loooong hump, and used to carry
the signal to those below. Any good use for them now?

Paddy Doyle – One of the Most Prolific Record Breakers check out his back packing records. Dude could haul ass with a radio.

  5. They are good as ballast for a ruck march, or a fail-safe if the garage-door sensor goes belly-up. There are so many more modern solutions in the VHF/UHF area, using common frequency ranges, exponentially smaller & lighter in weight, better in performance (including battery duration) that the the PRC-25/77 sets would make a good setup for a diorama or re-enactors (unless you have soooo much spare time to rig an amenable substitute battery solution AND have a pair of them, or more). Have had one on my back as well. The list of better solutions is a long one – see Brushbeater articles, etc. 🙂

  6. hee, thanks Badger. Guess cannot equate the old “prick77” with the
old wire phone/radio posted a few weeks ago.
Visited Brushbeater many times and find your info there amazing.
Have an older model UNIDEN here that a newspaper photographer
give me a few years ago, already set to a few frequencies they scanned
for news worthy material. But have not done much with it, except for
listening in once in a while. Thank you.
