Demobilizing America: A Nation Made by War and a Citizenry Unmade By It
Not to worry.
Those still on The Train counsel patience, while Team Pooh-Pooh advise calm.
Time will tell.
uneven. The usual communist crap re WW2 (good war, killing fascists) and Vietnam (bad war, killing communists). Xcellent re the GWOT though.

The veneration of the State … embodied in the veneration of the Uniform … is a serious impediment to the progress of human freedom.
It smacks of idolatry; and that’s supposed to be a Sin, isn’t it?
I don’t draw any substantive distinction between the soldiers of a Standing Army, and the soldiers of Jihad. Different Boss, same orders.
Well written. Very good read. Brings a lot together and makes total sense.
I’m now at the point where all I want Trump to do is a) build the fucking wall and deport, deport, deport, b) destroy SoeteroCare, c) appoint 2-3 more SCOTUS judges, d) drill, baby, drill, and then, e) leave me the fuck alone.
Ron Maxwell, the director of the film “Gettysburg” weighs in on this Syrian debacle…
(BTW, another great essay by Dave Soloway (sorry for linking to A. Stinker but AT and PJM are the only places he seems to publish these days):
Thoughtful piece; thanks for the link.
I would say the reason you do not see a large turnout publicly of people opposed to war is in many ways easy to understand,no draft. The country starts a draft and sending people overseas feel their will be then a huge public resistance to those actions.
I do believe that a lot of folks thought that by voting for someone who claimed to be outside the political circle citizens were speaking up and thought they could make a difference, seems in this case with last election may not be true.I would say a lot of citizens tired of the status quo in our govt.,that has not changed, just need different solutions.
I would also say the citizens response to the recent storms in Louisiana with the Cajun navy and Cajun army rescuing/housing and feeding folks affected by the storm on their own with out a govt. push gives me a sense that the country can still come together in times of trouble, which we seem to be heading for on many fronts.

The empire is dead. No need to wait for anything. Put a fork in it. I go back to the story of the largest buck I ever harvested. Opening day found me in a stand since 3am as the sun came up on the edge of a marsh in a connecting corridor. Mr. standard 8 point was following some doe scent as he approached my stand on a parallel line from behind @ approx 20-25 yds. When he was past my position by about 5-10 yards I had a bead on him and used my fancy buck stopping call of “hey you” taught to me by a mutant from WV who shall remain nameless. Mr. Buck stopped and my Rem 870 roared. The slug hit him solid in the lungs and he took off on a death run that lasted maybe 50 yds. What amazes me to this day is that he was hit with 2,000lbs of energy by a slug passing through both lungs. He was dead on his feet but didn’t know it yet. He was able to initiate forward motion despite having 2k pounds of force blow a hole through both lungs and run. That memory is burned into my brain by the adrenaline forever. I can still see it today. He weighed 187 field dressed. A large buck for my hunting area. My point in relating this story is that the FUSA has already been mortally wounded (by treason and corruption from within) and is currently sprinting across the woods like it’s still alive. It ain’t. It may take a while to drop but the ballistics say it will. Plan accordingly. Russia didn’t go tits up in the 90’s people survived somehow, we need to do that here. Start planting if you haven’t already.
That’s a tremendous recounting and analysis of the “progression,” from the forties till now, of the America both the author and I were born into (1943 for me), the attitudes of the ‘citizenry’ and the death of representative government/rise of the leviathan state.
He wrote my life, paralleling his own in so many ways. The sense of responsibility and patriotism and the slow dawning of the realization of the loss of respect for the people by the state… all of it. Very accurate and insightful, both in recounting events/trends and the attitudes and reactions of ‘the people.’
Highly recommended. Know history… or you won’t have one.
Y’know… winners get to write it?
you are witnessing WWIII in it’s early days of going Hot.
USA! USA! USA!

Trump! Trump! Trump!

it’s early. so glad i don’t work anymore. i don’t miss any of it.
“In many ways, from its founding the United States has been a nation made by wars.”
War is the only way a nation has, and can, ever been made.
Otherwise, can’t quibble with most of his other observations.
WWIII, agree, it is written!
This is just business. When the world goes broke, those puppet masters pull the war strings, page# 6 oligarch play book.
The linked essay is nothing but the virtue-signaling bovine effluvia of a self-serving excuse for the anti-war draft-dodging antics of an aging hippie, longing for the good old days when he could shit on America, spit on troops, call them baby killers, and wipe his ass with the flag with impuntiy towards the government, and the approbrium of his unwashed acid-dropping comrades, wrapped entirely in the selective facts he cobbles together.
Clearly, the ’60s were good for him.
If he spawned any kids that know him, they’re probably stockbrokers, and regard him as a family embarrassment, much as his parents certainly would have.
Unfortunately for his bong-hazed historical ignorance, Americans have routinely opposed every war this country fought, back to the Mexican War. Clearly Thoreau doing time for refusing to pay the poll tax for that little adventure is news to the Baby Duck scribe of this deservedly ignominious screed, from a vacuous and vapid generation happily mostly lost to drugs, and over-represented in the worthless occupations of the society.
He needs to die, soon, so as to take a load off of Mother Gaia in sustaining his white-priveleged patriarchal nonsense-spewing Alzheimer’s-crippled ass.
And I freely admit I couldn’t slog through to the back half of whatever point he was trying to make, and it was all I could do to hack through his recounting of the glory days of his 1960s youthful radicalism without emesis, or reaching for a weapon.
If he gets the facts of life when he theoretically had mental faculties so wrong, any analysis of the current time is nothing but tainted fruit from a poisoned tree and a feeble mind.
“…any analysis of the current time is nothing but tainted fruit from a poisoned tree and a feeble mind.”
Excellent! Really, that’s a terrific entry. But sorry, the crown of Champion Hypocrite is already taken here. What happens next…you invent twenty new categories all named after me?
Aesop: Thanks, I can remember coming home on leave from Benning’s School for Boys in 1970, Nixon had wound down the war so i, along with about 1200 other Candidates, was cashiered and transformed by magic into a SP4. As I walked through the Terminal, I was spit at, cursed, and called a baby-killer. I understand from a fellow Army veteran from that era that if you flew into SFO, armed MP’s had to escort you out of the Terminal to keep the returning Vets from being physically assaulted.
Then, all of these tie-dyed, long-haired, pot-smoking draft-dodgers and their skanky, hairy-legged and armpits girlfriends cleaned themselves up, graduated from law school and went to work for Billary in 1992. They joined their Dead Elephant draft-dodger counterparts, Quayle, Cheney, and Dana Rohrbacher at Mordor-On-The-Potomac. They added layers to the fascist bureaucracy of the EPA, EEOC, BATFE, and others. This asshat’s dance card, is all filled up. I hope I live to see his horrible demise, along with many others, when the culling happens.
You may be right about the author, but only by random luck. Cuz you sure don’t know what you’re talking about. If anyone here ever wants a classic example of Whining Victimized Collectivism, you saved them a ton of searching.
